Benefits of Coin Collecting

You might not think that something like a coin collection can make you feel better mentally and physically but it most certainly can. The act of collecting coins can be appealing to not only those in a higher age bracket but to every age group and they can foster great health benefits even at a younger age.

First of all, collecting coins keeps one's mind healthy and sharp. As an intellectually stimulating object or artifact a simple looking coin can teach the brain about history, military, monarchs, politics, and the economy. A coin collector in Texas named Mike Fuljenz says that "Coins in the ancient times were like a newspaper, telling about who was in power and whether the ruler was peaceful or a warmonger based on the design symbolism." These coins weren't only helpful to those living in those times but to us in today's society. We can look back at a coin from ancient Israel and learn about who controlled the region at a particular time. It has helped us piece together history!

This type of intellectual stimulation has a positive effect on the brain. Learning new things each day is beneficial to those who are aging and need mental workouts to keep their minds sharp. It's also a learning tool for those who are younger and want to learn more about humanity's past.

Secondly, coin collecting for an older generation means human interaction. You need to actually go out to a physical store or even to a garage sale to procure coins. It means that you have to leave your residence and physically interact with people. While it's not a strenuous workout for those in their thirties or forties for people in their seventies or eighties this might be the only physical action they get in a day.

It also promotes interaction with other people. Coin clubs and coin collecting societies are increasingly popular these days. It gives people a chance to come together and talk about a mutual interest. This can build friendships and create a sense of camaraderie. In addition to being intellectually and physically stimulating, coin collecting can also boost your self esteem. Finding and acquiring a rare coin that you've been after for some time can bolster a sense of pride and satisfaction which can improve your mood, build confidence, and create happiness in a person's life.

All of this is possible with only a simple love of coin collecting.
